The Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC) has recently revamped its website to provide comprehensive resources on environmental protection. Videos, photos and latest information on ECC activities are also available on the website. At the same time, ECC has also launched an informative and educational thematic website for schools and students. The website provides not only information on all ECC school programmes and activities, but also a lot of handy resources on environment education for use by school administration, teachers and students. EPD and the Department of Environmental Protection of Guangdong Province (GDEPD) announced on 26 April 2012 the report on the monitoring results of four major air pollutants (i.e. sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and respirable suspended particulates) measured by the Pearl River Delta Regional Air Quality Monitoring Network for 2011.

The water quality of Hong Kong's bathing beaches showed continuous improvement over the past year and, as reported in the 2011 Report, all 41 gazetted beaches fully met the Water Quality Objective for bathing waters. The number of "Good" ranking beaches has increased from 23 (56%) in 2010 to 31 (76%) in 2011. The report can be viewed at the EPD website or the thematic website.

To further promote source separation of waste, the EPD is setting up a community recycling network in all districts to increase public awareness on recycling and to facilitate public participation in recovering recyclables of lower commercial values, including waste plastics, glass bottles and small WEEE. The Statutory Ban against Idling of Motor Vehicle EnginesThe Statutory Ban against Idling of Motor Vehicle Engines
The Motor Vehicle Idling (Fixed Penalty) Ordinance has come into operation on December 15. Pursuant to the Ordinance, drivers are prohibited from leaving their vehicle engines idling for more than three minutes in any 60-minute period. A Penalty Notice will be issued to drivers contravening the prohibition and they will be liable to a fine of $320. For details, please visit relevant webpage.

The EPD has published a "Practice Guide for Investigation and Remediation of Contaminated Land" (PG), which shall be used in conjunction with the "Guidance Note for Contaminated Land Assessment and Remediation" and the "Guidance Manual for Use of Risk-based Remediation Goals for Contaminated Land Management" promulgated in August 2007. The PG provides more comprehensive coverage of potentially contaminated sites and contaminants typically encountered in Hong Kong, and will supersede a similar document entitled "Guidance Notes for the Investigation and Remediation of Contaminated Sites of: Petrol Filling Stations, Boatyards and Car Repair/Dismantling Workshops (1999)"

Green Hong Kong‧Carbon Audit campaign is striding into its second year. More and more organizations have joined the campaign as the Carbon Audit‧Green Partners. We set up a Chinese website named "Carbon Reduction‧Every Step Counts" to introduce how 15 of our Carbon Audit‧Green Partners from different sectors reduce their emissions in real life. We hope that more organizations and the public can better understand ways to reduce their carbon emissions and join us to combat climate change.

In order to provide full support and participation of the community to enhance the energy efficiency of the whole society, there is a need to complement the Buildings Energy Efficiency Funding Schemes by encouraging eligible NGOs to participate in energy conservation initiatives. The Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) Committee has allocated funding for full or partial support of eligible non-government organisations (NGOs) to promote and implement energy conservation projects. Environmental Resource CentresEnvironmental Exhibition and Resource Centre
The EPD's Environmental Resource Centres at Wan Chai, Tsuen Wan and Fanling, Kennedy Town Environmental Exhibition Corner, Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre as well as the Mobile Environmental Resource Centre provide easy access of environmental resources materials to the public.
